D-Day - 80 years - 80 Days - 1st 80 hours
In May 2024, The Longest Yarn D-Day was inaugurated at Notre-Dame Church in Carentan to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Created in Normandy and shaped by an international community of makers, the 80-metre hand-knitted and crocheted exhibition has since toured the United Kingdom and the United States, reaching more than 500,000 visitors worldwide.
The exhibition now returns to Carentan, where it will be permanently installed in its spiritual home — preserving the human stories of D-Day through textile art for future generations.

Inaugurée en mai 2024 à l’église Notre-Dame de Carentan, au cœur de la Normandie, The Longest Yarn D-Day a vu le jour pour marquer le 80ᵉ anniversaire du Débarquement. Cette œuvre textile monumentale de 80 mètres, entièrement réalisée à la main au crochet et au tricot par une communauté internationale de passionnés, allie artisanat et mémoire collective.
Exposée au Royaume-Uni puis aux États-Unis, où elle a été découverte par plus de 500 000 visiteurs, l’installation revient désormais à Carentan pour y être présentée de manière permanente. Son objectif reste inchangé : raconter, à travers l’art textile, les récits humains du Jour J et préserver cette mémoire pour les générations futures.
